Nirvana Launches Double Dry-Hopped Pale Ale ‘Buttercup’

Fresh from winning Gold and Country Award Winner at the World Beer Awards for their IPA, LBA member Nirvana Brewery has unveiled their latest limited-edition release: Buttercup, a double dry-hopped pale ale at just 0.5% ABV.

Buttercup is Nirvana’s second special release of 2025, following on from the earlier launch of Blossom, a hazy pale ale. Both beers feature playful artwork by local Leyton artist Carl Stimpson, inspired by the cult Powerpuff Girls series.

Bold Flavour at 0.5%

Double dry-hopping involves adding hops twice during fermentation - once early on, and again later in the process - to intensify both flavour and aroma. For Buttercup, Nirvana worked with hop innovators Totally Natural Solutions (TNS) to select a combination of four hop varieties, resulting in a beer described as bursting with tropical flavour, with notes of peach, lychee, and citrus.

We’ve settled on a core range of beers that cover the most popular styles - and successfully so, given recent awards such as the gold for our IPA,” said Becky Kean, Nirvana’s founder and brand ambassador. “However, with developments in both yeasts and hops for low/no brewing and the work being done by the likes of TNS, there’s always room for some specials.
